adding to sum if certain text is present

I am working on a ledger that utilizes account codes. I want to set up a summary page that keeps a running total/balance of the transactions within each account code. Is there a formula that will add the value of cell to the total based on the text in a corresponding cell?

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure about the sumif. I'd like to be able to enter a code for each entry on the ledger and then, based on the code, that amount be added to the code category total.
