I've got a spead sheet containg 10,000 parts in cells A2 through A10001

I need to break up these into smaller groups (1k each) by adding GRP1/, GRP2/, GRP3/, etc to the text that's already in the cells.

Is there a Function that will do this for me?

Excel Facts

What do {} around a formula in the formula bar mean?
{Formula} means the formula was entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter signifying an old-style array formula.
If the range to add the text is in A2:A10001, in B2 enter,

="GRP1/"&A2

and copy down.

Now the question is, what criteria is used to determine what's in GRP1, GRP2 or GRP3?

That works, but it places the data in the same cell that the formula was placed in.

I need to add the GRP# to the text in A1 through A10001, and keep it in those cells.

Criteria is pretty straight forward.
I've got a spreadsheet that contains a list of 10k part numbers. The part numbers need to be seperated into groups of 1000 by adding the aforementioned text to the font of the number. The spread sheet is saved at a later time as tab delimited text file. The prefix that is being added will seperate the the overall list into manageable sizes for insertion into a database.

Make sense?

Ahhhh not to me. :)

What criteria places it in GRP1, GRP2 and GRP3? What differentiates a part from GRP1 or GRP2 or 3? Is it the first 1000 in GRP1, the next 1000 in GRP2 etc.?
