Addition of 2 digit numbers in a cell

If you have a 2 digit number(i.e., 12) in a particular cell, how can you add those 2 numbers together(as 3 is the result), and insert that total in another cell. Thank you...

Agreed it works, but this, along with the Microsoft suggestion, is volatile. Would there be a reason to use this over the apparently non-volatile suggestion of DonkeyOte?
