Additional blank workbook when opening excel file

When I open an existing excel file a blank workbook (book1) opens also. How do I stop this from happening?
 

Excel Facts

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
Sort by date Sort by votes
Is it possible you are double clicking on the icon to start Excel when you should only be clicking on it once?
