Hi all,

I am going through an Access course and it covers ADO and DAO. I am not sure which one to focus on; is there a disadvantage to learning one over the other. Thank you for any adivce.

Excel Facts

What do {} around a formula in the formula bar mean?
{Formula} means the formula was entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter signifying an old-style array formula.
As far as MS are concerned (currently anyway) DAO is obsolete and there are, to the best of my knowledge, no plans to make it 64 bit compatible. Whether, or when, that may affect you, I couldn't say, but I'd focus on ADO.

Thank you for your replys. Rorya, does this mean that at some point we will no longer be able to use DAO through lack of MS support?

I have no way of knowing that. :)

I'll chuck in 2 cents worth.

ADO is a generic technology that you can use with most data sources.
DAO is specific to the Access Jet engine, and will be around as long as Jet (I don't know how long that is, but the new ACCDB format is also Jet, although you need to set a different library reference).

If you work mostly in Access DAO has advantages. If you pull and push data all over the place ADO is the go. I use both.
