I am trying to get an advanced filter working on a work sheet.

im trying to make a unique list in a range of cells where some cells will have 30 characters (numbers, spaces and hyphens)....and some will just have 14 characters..(numbers and hyphens)

Its a range of about 2900 cells in column AL i am trying to make a unique list from.

My steps are:

Advance filter/copy to another location/select range Sheet1!AL2:A:2962/copy to Sheet1!AN3/click on "unique records only"/click "OK"

I get a pop up window that states "The extract range has a missing or invalid field name"

there are no blank cells in my range...all entries are either the 30 or the 14 characters

some look like this: 12345678-9101 1234567891-12345

and others will look like this: 12345678-9100

what am i doing wrong here? Are the values too long for the filter to work?

If you are copying to another sheet, You need to have the sheet you are filtering data to Active & then go through the steps to filter. Hopefully, this will work for you.

Is the heading from the copy from range the same as the copy to range?

no it is not..i was not aware the heading mattered becuase my range is not named after the header...its simply listed as a range on the sheet. I will try it with matching headers and i will report back.
