I have a list in a column with several names in each cell. I want to use Advanced Filter to filter the list in place so that it shows only those rows that contain the text string that is typed in. The list is in a named range called Parties. The heading Parties is in cell D1 and my criterion formula is to go in cell D2. Cell F3 contains the text the user types in. Essentially what I need is to do a filter in the same way as the custom filter that checks to see if the cell contains the relevant text.

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
You can use this

=ISNUMBER(FIND("Yourtexthere",A2))

where A2 is the first data row of the column of interest. Remember that when using Advanced Filter with formulas you don't need a title for that criteria, leave it empty, BUT select that row as if it had a title.

Sorry Juan Pablo, I didn't test it enough. The filter does work. My next problem is that I have the text to be selected in another list of names and use data validation to select it. Is there a way to get the Advanced Filter to update when the text is changed?
