Hello all,

First time poster, long time lurker. Don't know if this has been discussed but I don't know how i would search for it.

I'd like to know how, if I can, create an auto-updating link from a formula.

I want a link like ='C:\Folder\[XXXXmtd.xls]Sheet1!$A$1
where XXXX is date "mmdd"

I links to sheets which are Saved As... each week to 0605mtd.xls, 0612mtd.xls, 0619mtd.xls, etc...

I've been able to get a cell with text reading [0605mtd.xls]Sheet1!
Can I make this text evaluate as a working link?

Thanks,
 Luis

Excel Facts

How to find 2nd largest value in a column?
MAX finds the largest value. =LARGE(A:A,2) will find the second largest. =SMALL(A:A,3) will find the third smallest
Hi,
I'm not an expert in this but in a similar post Schielrn has suggested using indirect.ext() which requires the morefunc add-in. This would enable you to connect to closed workbooks using a formula similar to the regular Indirect() - see the help files to understand how that works. If the other workbook is not closed, you don't need the morefunc add-in.

Recommended add-ins page:

(I was maybe having trouble getting through to the morefunc homepage)

Here's an example of Indirect() from mikerickson:

Hope this helps,
AB
