Consider using ISTEXT for alphanumeric strings. If you mean single character entries, consider using CODE.

Keep in mind though that ISTEXT will consider "101" to be text. It's not clear to me that you would consider such an entry to be alphanumeric. If you want to treat such an entry as numeric consider using...

=ISERR("101"+0)

...to test for alphanumeric.
