Alt+Down Arrow in Validation List

I know Alt+Down arrow populates the validation drop down list and if a value was already present, will highlight the value. I am trying to highlight the first value, where the first value is no value (blank) and the cell value is blank, however, alt/down arrow only populates the list, and wont highlight the blank choice. Is this possible with sendkeys? I would like to keep the blank value as first choice.

Thanks

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
I doubt that you can modify this built in feature.
The best you can do is ALT+DownArrow and then press Home, (or the down arrow once more after the list opens).

I got it to work in the end with alt downarrow with some modifications. I had to use a space for the first value instead of blank. Thanks for your reply.
