Alternative To Using INDIRECT ?

Can this formula be done in a better way?

= SUM (INDIRECT ("A" & C100 & ":A" & D100))

It's basically a SUM of column A - using the C100 and D100 cells to give the range of rows

I'm sure INDEX could do the job - but I keep getting errors...

=SUM(INDEX(A:A,C100):INDEX(A:A,D100))
