The I enter long pieces of alpha numeric text into a cell, when click on another cell, the cell fills with # characters so all I see is #########################################.

But the formula bar displays the text I entered.

Any idea why this is happening - maximum charcters for a perhaps cell?

Thanks in advance.

I'm sure this must have been answered before but couldn't find it -search engines don't seem to like # characer.

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
Rich,

Im pretty sure you just have to resize the column. Double clicking on the column header boarder line will automatically resize the column to the siz needed. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks Lisa

Resizing didn't work for me but I found out that there's a limit of 255 characters in an Excel Cell. So as soon as I reduced the text to this number of chars it was all ok. :)
