Hi Guy's
I am trying to write a macro that will check to see if a file has been modified today and if so run some extra code.

i have reading about the Application.ontime fuction but really dont understand it.

Is there a way to check the files modified date and if it = today then run the macro, if the date is not today then check again in 5 mins

For the modified date, use the FileSystemObject DateLastModified property - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/c8xh895w(v=VS.85).aspx.
