array formula resize cell

whenever i enter an array formula the active cell immediately defaults to a % format with 15+ decimal places. i'm not sure who thought that would make sense, or why an active cell would ever change formats without being directed to, but i find it very annoying, and am tired of reformatting, and then resizing, the cells. does anyone know a way to deactivate this feature?

many thanks.

Perhaps, if you would be so kind as to enter an example, and explain what you are doing, and what cell actually has the problem, someone here would be able to help you.
