Hello to all. I am attempting to create a serial number system for my job. I am able to auto assign numbers but that is not what I am looking at doing. I want to be able to have excel differentiate between one item from another and automatically populate that serial. Example bellow

Let’s say:
C2 = ICS
D2= MAT
E2= 0001

I want F2 to auto populate: ICS-MAT-0001.
Every time “MAT” is entered, that is auto assigns like above even if “Cell” D2 changes value. I need the value of column “D” to show up as its own run of serial numbers. Example:

ICS-MAT-0001
ICS-BAR-0001
ICS-MAT-0002
ICS-MAT-0003
ICS-BAR-0002
ICS-MAT-0004

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
Welcome to the Board!

Is this what you are looking for in cell F2:
Excel Formula:
=C2 & "-" & D2 & "-" & E2

I think you mean "CONCATENATE". You could use that, or just use "&" like I did in my post.
