# Assistance with SUMIFS Function formula

I would appreciate assistance with the following SUMIFS Function formula that I have written so that it will work properly.

=SUMIFS(Sheet2!B\$3:B\$12,Sheet2!A\$3:A\$12,Sheet2!A\$3:A\$12,Sheet2!A\$3:A\$12>=A3,Sheet2!A\$3:A\$12<=B3)

As the following screen shot shows, what I am trying to accomplish is to sum numeric values from WORKSHEET #2 Column B into respective cells located in WORKSHEET #1, Column C, according to the lapse time range that’s determined by the difference between date and time values shown in WORKSHEET #1, Columns A & B.

Numeric values shown in WORKSHEET # Column C of the screen shot are not calculated numbers. They are entered numbers that show what the numeric values should be if I can get the SUMIFS Function Formula to work correctly.

Any assistance that you can provide in helping me correct my formula to deliver my desired results would be greatly appreciated.

Try
=SUMIFS(Sheet2!B\$3:B\$12,Sheet2!A\$3:A\$12,">="&A3,Sheet2!A\$3:A\$12,"<="&B3)

Fluff,

So that I may better understand your solution in application to future formulas I write, what purpose does the "" around the >= and <= serve, and what is the & sign doing?

Thanks

You need the quotes because the <= is a string and the & concatenates the <= with the cell value

Thank you for the additional explanation of your solution and why it worked. knowing why and where these additional text characters needed to be added to my original formula will definitely help me in writing future formulas.

Best regards - John
