Hi all.

I know this is probably a no-brainer for most of you.

The numbers in my column look like this 1000, I want them to look like this 10.00. How can I accomplish this?

Thanks for your help.

Excel Facts

Show numbers in thousands?
Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand
1. Type the number 100 into any blank cell.
2. Copy that cell (Edit -> Copy, or CTRL+C).
3. Select your column or range of cells you wish to change
4. Click Edit -> PasteSpecial.. -> Divide -> OK
5. Format those cells as Number with 2 decimal places
6. Delete the cell with 100 in it.

Note: This converts the actual values in the cell from 1000 to 10.00, 12345 to 123.45, etc. It's not just showing you 1000 with a decimal thrown in the middle.

So, 1000 (one thousand)is really 10.00 (ten)
In a blank cell, enter .01 and copy. Select your cells and do a Paste Special>Multipy. Format as number with 2 decimal places.

If you, however, wish to retain the value of one thousand but display it as 10.00, then choose Format>Cells>Number Tab> Custom. For type, enter
##"."00

Thank you for the prompt response. The result I get when I follow your instructions is zero in the 'new' column.

Which instructions? Both of my suggestions, as well as Tom's do what they stated they will do.

I followed Tom's instructions:

1.) I copied the column cell range that I want to change
2.) Performed a 'Paste Special' and selected the 'Divide' box
3.) Formated the new column as a number with two decimals

Yes, 1000 is actually 10.00 (ten).

Thanks for your help.
