Auto Filter Jumbling Data excel 2003

I am creating a rather large spreadsheet that uses an auto filter on the first two columns. I would like this auto filter to manipulate the data on the entire spreadsheet, and it does this very well when selecting individual criteria, however when selecting 'sort by ascending/descending' the only data that is sorted is in the column directly to the right of the column that the filter is on. How do I expand the selection so that all of the data on the page is moved with the filter?

Ex.
Data Filter [Column a][Column b][Column c]

when sorting, only the data in column a moves, thus jumbling up any data in column b or c. is there any way to expand the selection that the data filter selects?

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
Surely you decide what area the filter applies to. Filters should be applied to the entire range of a list, and not a single column. Are you saying that you can't do that for some reason?

Thanks Glenn, It turns out the reason why all of the data wasn't filtering is because I had a few columns within my information that were empty (spacing reasons) All that was needed to remedy the problem was to place numbers in the empty columns and then white them out so that the numbers would be invisible. This allowed me to keep the spacing needed to make the sheet look good, while also allowing me to filter the information properly.

Thanks again!
