I am trying to figure out how to have Excel automatically replace shortened abbreviations in a specific workbook. I do not want to use the "auto correct" option because I only want this to happen in this workbook, not all of them.

For Example....

In A1 I type JD
In B1 it automatically displays John Doe

In A2 I type SS
In B2 it automatically displays Sally Smith

Any ideas? thanks....

oh, Mr Excel.. love the netcast.. .i listen to it every day.

When did Power Query debut in Excel?
Although it was an add-in in Excel 2010 & Excel 2013, Power Query became a part of Excel in 2016, in Data, Get & Transform Data.

Hi

You have to setup a table of 2 columns first for the abbreviations and second for the whole name, then use simple VLOOKUP function
