Autocomplete has duplicate entries -- won't autocomplete that word

Excel 2010. Autocomplete has worked perfectly fine for the life of this spreadsheet. All of a sudden it won't autocomplete the word Consulting in one column. This is not an issue of blank rows or cells above. It was working one day and the next day it refused to autocomplete even though Consulting was in a number of rows right above it.

So I began researching and discovered you could see all the entries by doing Alt-down arrow. Once I did that I see Consulting listed twice! It's the only entry with duplicate listings and that must be what's suddenly stopping Consulting from autocompleting.

Interestingly, I search/replaced Consulting in that column with Labor and then the drop down shows two copies of Labor.

How do I get autocomplete to start working again for Consulting?

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
drop out of excel into the options menu, and it is one of the sub menus

My guess is that 1 or more "Consulting" has a space character after it. Try these 2 formulas and see what they return (adjust range to suit your data)

=COUNTIF(A1:A10,"Consulting")
=COUNTIF(A1:A10,"Consulting*")

Brilliant! The count was one off so I searched for consulting with a space after it and found the entry a few rows up from the end. Of course thinking back that's right before I noticed the autocomplete failing.

Thanks so much, Peter!
