When i use autofilter to filter my data it changes, the first few columns are correct but the data that is stored in the later ones doesn't move so is wrong.

e.g.
before sorting
column1 column2 column3
Tom Hanks Good
Pete Tong Wrong
Walace Gromit And

after sorting on column1
column1 column2 column3
Pete Tong Good
Tom Hanks Wrong
Walace Gromit And

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.

Welcome to the Mr Excel board!

AutoFilter? It sounds more like you are SORTING rather than FILTERING.

If your data is in columns A, B and C then either:
a) Select A1:C?? to include all your data area, or
b) If you have a large amount of data in the columns, select the whole columns by clicking on the heading above column A and dragging to the right till columns A, B and C are all highlighted.

Now Data|Sort... and chosse which column(s) to sort by and also ascending/descending.

That seems to be ok, thanks. Seems a bit odd that you have to go through that rather than just using the autofilter though.

I don't see why it is odd. AutoFilter is used to select rows that meet a certain criteria and hide the other rows. It has nothing to do with sorting.

Data|Sort however, is designed exactly to do that: SORT

Re: I AM HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM!

I'm having the same problem and could use some help.
Could you describe what is on your sheet, what you are trying to achieve and what problem(s) you have encountered?

Rather than describe your sheet, if you can use Colo's HTML Maker to post a small sample of your sheet to the board it would be even better. Here's how:
