I am a newbie to the board and have had several lingering questions anwered already today by scouring the board. I have a problem that I can't seem to figure out.
I formatted a cell for date, and after I type 09/14/02, the output in the cell is 01/00/00. When I go back to the cell, the contents have been changed to =9/14/2. Is there a setting somewhere to turn this "feature" off? Please help!!

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
Choose the Tools | Options... menu command's "Transition" tab and uncheck the "Transition formula entry" option.
