'Automatic' vs. 'Manual' Calculation

I have a shared workbook, with hyperlinks to other workbooks.

Sometimes after I hit a hyperlink and run a macro in a different workbook, I return to my shared workbook to find the Automatic Calculation has mysteriously turned off.

Can anyone explain this?

Or how I can prevent it from continuously turning to Manual Calculation in my shared workbook?

Excel defaults to the calculation mode of the first file open. Any other workbook opened after that defaults to the mode used in that first file.
