Automatically copy cell formatting based on the formatting of another cell

It's easy to copy the value of a cell. If you want to automatically copy the value from A2 to B7, then in B7 you type =A2. But can something like this be done with cell formatting?

I use a spreadsheet to track our work, and we color each item based on who is handling it (every person is assigned a color). The first tab (work) is a sheet that allows everyone to monitor the work each step of the way. The second tab (breakdown) lists each task that needs to be done with more detail. Currently, we need to format the cells twice (once on each tab). Is there a way to format the cells on the "breakdown" tab, and have that formatting automatically copy over to the corresponding cell in "work"?

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
You could copy the source cell, and use a Paste Special (I) which is Linked Picture. Copy the original cell, select the target cell, right click, choose Paste Special, use the arrow on the right and select the bottom right option. This copies a PICTURE of the original cell. So you can see the value as well as what ever formatting is applied to it. But since it is a picture, you can't use the value in any calculations.
