is there a way to automatically make a backup copy of a file as soon as someone opens it? We have a very important file that is shared and used by many. Sometime people save over it or accidentally drag it to a folder...... all kinds of things happen

I want to save a copy of the file to a certain folder every time someone opens it so I always have a backup.

Excel Facts

Fastest way to copy a worksheet?
Hold down the Ctrl key while dragging tab for Sheet1 to the right. Excel will make a copy of the worksheet.
Put this in ThisWoorkbook
Code:
Private Sub Workbook_Open()

Dim sFileName As String
    Dim sDateTime As String
    With ThisWorkbook
        sDateTime = " (" & Format(Now, "mm-dd-yyyy - hh_mm") & ").xlsm"
        sFileName = Application.WorksheetFunction.Substitute _
          (.FullName, ".xlsm", sDateTime)
        .SaveCopyAs "C:\Users\XXXXX\Desktop\ FOLDERNAME\FILE NAME- " & Format(Now, "mm-dd-yyyy  h-mm-ss") & ".xlsm"
End With

End Sub
