I need to figure out the average overtime hours worked.

Each employee submits a timesheet with total hours worked

A B C D E F
AVG OT 9/9 9/16 9/23 9/30....
Bob ??? 42 32 46 49

I need to know the average of how many hours "Bob" worked overtime in a given row.

Thank you in advance!

David.

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.

=AVERAGE(IF(B1:E1>40,B1:E1))-40, confirmed with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER

OR, =(SUM(B1:E1)-160)/4

Note that the former tells how many OT hours he averaged when he worked OT, and the latter tells how many OT hours he averaged on each day (including the 0 for the second day in the average)
