Hi,

Is there anyone out there that could help me with a formula for the following please?

I need to find an average for "Richard Harris" of entries made over 3 batches of product in 4 different areas.

eg

CELL A............CELL B..........CELL C.........CELL D..........CELL E
BATCH 1
Name.............area 1...........area 2..........area 3..........area 4
John Terry........10................20...............30...............10
Richard Harris....12................10...............60...............12

BATCH 2
Name.............area 1...........area 2..........area 3..........area 4
John Terry........10................20...............30...............10
Richard Harris....12................10...............60...............12

BATCH 3
Name.............area 1...........area 2..........area 3..........area 4
John Terry........10................20...............30...............10
Richard Harris....12................10...............60...............12

I hope someone can help!

Also, how can I copy and paste what I have on my excel screen so it looks like how it should when I paste it here?

Thanks
Stu

Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
Hi,

Try something like =SUMIF(A:A,"Richard Harris",B:B)/COUNTIF(A:A,"Richard Harris")

I use HTMLMaker to post Excel sheet images on the board.

Stu, do you want an average for each area or an overall average?

Try this: =Average(cell ref1, cell ref2, cell ref3 etc etc)

Thanks Mel but I need it to be more complicated than that.

Sometimes the names will be in a different order so I need something that will look up the names and the the column reference....

Hope this makes sense

Sorry, I didn't understand that that was what you meant. See Alan's response.

Sadly not. The other one is the one with the money, I'm the one who's still trying to get it...
