Need some expertise please. Using Excel (Windows XP/ part of the MS OfficeSuite). Unable to see background color on spreadsheet, but if I send spreadsheet to another computer, same set-up, the color appears. We upgraded the monitor - all other MS programs (e.g. Word, Powerpoint, Access etc work fine.) To be able to see where the colors are, we can switch to the print preview, and the cells will appear in shades of grey. We are able to apply color to fonts and see on-screen. This is driving us buggy! Help please?

thnx - Karen

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
hi - welcome to the board!

what, exactly, do you mean by 'background colours' in this context - how are they being set up?

Background Color

Hi PaddyD! ...and thank you (my first time, hope I don't step on my own toes).

Anyway, I was trying to describe the cell color or pattern. It's under format, so if we have formulas that want the cell a certain color under certain conditions, then the cell may appear yellow or green or red. But I found that you can't even highlight the cells you want and shade them with a color... suggestions?
