Background Data recording

I wasn't quite sure where to ask this question, as it's not directly related to Excel...

Has anyone heard of a way to have data received from a certain input always go to a certain application (such as excel?)

We have a computer that we have to use exclusively for scanning and recording information, and we were wondering if it would be able to be used for other purposes while recording information in the background. A USB barcode scanner is used to collect information, and it basically acts as a keyboard input on the computer.

Thanks for any input!

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
I hope I understood your question !

well, if you are planning a project or something that sort, then you could use Excel as a backend. You could use Excel through ODBC (Database Connectivity). Besides, if you need more functionality, reliability & speed than I would recommend using Microsoft Access as a backend. These are a little low level & cheap Databases which could be used to serve as a backend :)
