Basic...really basic Excel question

I type in a five digit number in an Excel cell, I hit enter and it becomes a three digit number. Why? How can I correct this problem?

i.e., 80000 becomes 800.

I thought it was a decimile problem but it isn't. Thanks for your help.

If you have checked for custom formatting and found nothing out of the ordinary, then it sounds like either influence VBA which I doubt, or you have your system set to an option of fixed decimal places to 2.

From the worksheet menu, click Tools > Options > Edit tab and deselect (take the checkmark out of the box next to) Fixed decimal places.
