Basic Sum Formula Question

Morning All,
There is probably a very simple answer to this question, but being relatively new to Excel I'm not very knowledgable.

What I'm trying to do is get the total for a group of cells C16 though to C62 but only for the cells that have a numerical value in them.

That is, I want to count the number of cells that have a numerical value in them and disregard the cells that have "N/A" in them.

I have the formula for the total score "=SUM(C16:C62)" and the percentage "=C64/C63" but not able to work out the other bit.

Any help greatly appreciated...using Office 2000.

Excel Facts

Select all contiguous cells
Pressing Ctrl+* (asterisk) will select the "current region" - all contiguous cells in all directions.
Assuming your "N/A" is text and not an error value (otherwise =SUM(C16:C62) won't work), try

=COUNT(C16:C62) this counts all numerical values including zero

..or if you don't really need the SUM and COUNT except as a means to get the average just use

=AVERAGE(C16:C62)
