batch linking word documents in excel sheet

Hi,
I have a excel file with a column that has thousand od items.
Each item must be linked to a word document with same name.
Is there a easy way do do it.
Now I am hyper linking each file one by one.
Please note that item name and file name are same, but item name doesn't have the extention .doc
Your help is highly appreciated.
