Hi,

Bit of a vague subject but what I want to do is take a message written in a cell and break it down.

What I need the spread sheet to do is take each letter in the message and depending on the letter and whether it’s the 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc letter and do something with it.

Is it possible to do this?

At the moment I have the message written over a range of cells so the word "the" is spread over 3 cells bit it would be easier if the message could be entered into one cell then broken down in to each letter.

Cheers,

Scott

Difference between two dates
Secret function! Use =DATEDIF(A2,B2,"Y")&" years"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"YM")&" months"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"MD")&" days"
Can you not use the LEFT, MID and RIGHT functions to achieve this? Not sure if this helps ......

Hi Scott

You can certainly split the word(s) up by individual letter by using the MID function eg:

=MID(A1,2,1)

would take the second character in the string (so the from your example above).

Really does depend on what you want to do with the letters subsequently.

Best regards
