Calculate how much of a roll will be used...

Afternoon,

My son is setting up a vinyl wrapping solution for interiors, and I was hoping to create a calculator for how much vinyl he would need to purchase for each job.

Does any one know if there is some vba to calculate how much of a roll 2M Wide x 15M long would be used from a mix of various shaped rectangles.

Examples Sizes:

Panel 1: 600mm x 300mm
Panel 2: 600mm x 300mm
Panel 3: 800mm x 450mm
Panel 4: 800mm x 450mm
Panel 5: 1200mm x 600mm
Panel 6: 800mm x 600mm
Panel 7: 600mm x 450mm

It will probably always be rectangles and the total length of the roll could be longer or shorter.

Your thoughts/help would be appreciated.

this is a 2D-cutting problem, a little bit more complicated then the standard 1D-cutting problem.
You can rotate panel 90 degrees, etc.

You need a little bit more, for example
5&6 together = exact 2000mm = 600mm*2000mm *2(back and front)
Also a little bit more for the enveloppe ?

You are absolutely correct the pieces can be rotated dependant on the patern...

A bit more info. Sorry this would have helped initially I guess.

There will be an edge percentage added to each of the rectangles (20mm additional margin to each edge). I've just checked and the roll widths can also be slightly different.

I have the full list of products which will be selected first. This will lookup and provide roll length, width and cost.

Number of panels would then be stated and then their dimensions entered in the relevant number of boxes.

Calculation would be based on that criteria.

I hope I've added a bit of clarity. I could make a mini sheet with the layout if that helped?

This does exactly what I'm looking for! Do you happen to know if it achievable within an excel sheet?

Was thinking about having it all in a single cost book.

i'm afraid, it is stand-alone, so there is no possibility to exchange with excel.
Perhaps if you sign in, there can be more functions available (???)
If you google, may be you find other similar tools ?
