If I have two date written as 5/30/1978 12/31/2012 in D1 andE1 is there a formula that will calculate the months from the starting datetill the end date that I can place in F1 ?

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
Regarding DATEDIF, (since the OP did not specify which version of Excel he/she is using) here is an interesting discussion. link.

The start date is in cell D1, and the end date is in E1:[FONT=Segoe UI, Segoe UI Web, Segoe UI Symbol, Helvetica Neue, BBAlpha Sans, S60 Sans, Arial, sans-serif]
