Calculate occupancy rate

Hi,

Following maybe not an Excel challenge by itself, but lets give it a try anyway :)

Warehouse consists out of 3.000 sections. All sections can either store 3 items B or 4 items E, this is not specified and administered in the system (neither upfront as afterwards).
When only item E in warehouse would mean 12.000 items could be stored, when only item B 9.000 items could be stored.
In this situation only the information is known that 3.000 of B and 5.000 of E are in stock.
In my opinion crucial information is missing on how many sections are being filled with either B or E. Because B could either be efficiently been put in 3.000 sections, or wasting efficiency and being spread on 5.000 sections and reducing availability for E items.

Do you see any possibility to calculate an occupancy rate for this situation with following data:
1) 3.000 sections in total in warehouse with either 3 places for B or 4 places for E
2) 3.000 items of B current stock
3) 5.000 items of E current stock

Thanks in advance!

Excel Facts

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
each B takes up 1/3 of a section, each E takes up 1/4 section.

3000 Bs and 5000 Es take up 1000+1250 = 2250 sections. The warehouse is at 2250/3000 of capacity.

The difficutly is not in calculating the occupancy, but in taking that figure and determining how many more A and E you can add to inventory without re-arranging the sections.

Thanks for this, very helpful!
