Calculate with IF

Here's what I have:

Total(cell E3) Night(cellQ3) Day(cellP3)
2.0 1.0

I am trying to get Excel to do something like this in the Day column:

If there is no entry in Night, then Day = Total
If Night> 0, then sum Total - Night to = Day
If Night = Total, then Day should be blank

Please Help!!

If I understand correctly, perhaps:

=IF(Q3=E3,"",E3-MAX(0,Q3))
