Calculated field items in pivot tables

Hope someone can help - I've spent hours trying to insert a calculated field item into a pivot table - I need to insert an extra column in the pivot table (not outside!) that contains a formula for the data produced in other fields (to the left). I have tried creating pivot fields in the 'calulated field' option under 'formulas'. However, the only result returned is '0's. If I click on 'Calculated item' I keep getting an error message that does not make any sense. Is this a bug in Excel 2000 or is there a way of doing this seemingly straightforward task??

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
Hi.

Can you tell us what the structure of the underlying data is, and how you're structuring it in the Pivot Table, and what the formats of the fields are? Oh and what is the error message?

Regards,

Jon :)

The formula needs to multiply the total column by a number. The pivot table is a normal table type with data counts that are totalled by row. The error message is quite long and I cannot paste it in, but it really has not helped...
