Calculating a the difference in months

I am trying to perform a calculation by taking a date for example 1/Nov/04 and determine the number of months between that date and the month prior to the current month. In this case the answer would be 3. Does anyone have a solution?

=DATEDIF(A1,EDATE(TODAY(),-1),"M")
