I am expanding a worksheet with vlookups, lists etc. to prepare it for bulk data entry and now each time I delete or enter data Excel is "Calculating Cells".

The current worksheet size is 35MB. Is that the reason and if so, is there a workaround?

Excel Facts

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.

Your file is getting kind of "big" and that message means it's taking some amount of time to calculate.

You might want to set calculation to manual while you input data.

See this for general tips on efficiency:

Well, we are moving from Access to Excel as most users do not have Access as an application or even understand how to use it... Once the data entry side is complete, the data will be repopulated into the Access db. in a flat file table, as well as remaining in Excel as a historical reference.

I already tried setting the Calculation to manual and this worked. I'll look through some of the suggestions in your link and see what I come up with...
