Calculating Percentages and Showing Total in One Cell

Hi there,

I'm having a calculation problem, which I'm hoping a few of this board's members will be able to help me out with:

On one row we have 18,000, on the row below I wish to take away 30% of the above number and show the remainder. I know I can do this over three rows but can I do it on just two?

I am using Excel 2003 and Windows XP.

=A1*0.7

say 18000 is in A1:


=A1-(A1*.3)

Change reference to suit your needs

and

=A1-(A1*.3)

Give the same result (but the first one is simpler !)

We really wanted to do it the second way, but yep, we could have used 0.7!
