if a formula is written as text in a text formatted cell, can it be changed into a real working formula right there on the spot in that same cell?

Excel Facts

Round to nearest half hour?
Use =MROUND(A2,"0:30") to round to nearest half hour. Use =CEILING(A2,"0:30") to round to next half hour.

Try CTL+A (select all) then right click within the selection, click on FORMAT CELLS, then in the NUMBER tab select GENERAL.

Let's say the speadsheet is all formatted to text, and I want to extract all the word that's between the first space and the second space, so I write this long formula like this:
=MID(G12,SEARCH(" ",G12,1)+1,SEARCH(" ",G12,SEARCH(" ",G12,1)+1)-SEARCH(" ",G12,1)-1)

Well, when I hit ENTER and no result appears, I realize I just typed away and all I did was enter text. Changing the format of the cell does not make the formula work. You still have to re-type the whole dang thing, and some of these take me a long time to think up.

HA! PaddyD ! Your A Genius! HO HO it works!

Man, I can't tell you how much time I have wasted re-typing formulas because I forgot what format I was in.

Thanks!
