if a formula is written as text in a text formatted cell, can it be changed into a real working formula right there on the spot in that same cell? This message was edited by Doctor Logic on 2002-11-01 19:50
Let's say the speadsheet is all formatted to text, and I want to extract all the word that's between the first space and the second space, so I write this long formula like this:
=MID(G12,SEARCH(" ",G12,1)+1,SEARCH(" ",G12,SEARCH(" ",G12,1)+1)-SEARCH(" ",G12,1)-1)
Well, when I hit ENTER and no result appears, I realize I just typed away and all I did was enter text. Changing the format of the cell does not make the formula work. You still have to re-type the whole dang thing, and some of these take me a long time to think up.
