I often need to display values in degrees. Not finding a way to enter a degree symbol directly into a custom format string, I end up going over to Word, entering the symbol using Crtl+Shift+@, Space, then copying that to the custom format. Unfortunately, xl2bb does not include the custom formats in what it displays. The format is 0.0°F_) for the °F numbers and 0.0°C_) for the °C numbers.

Is there any way that I can enter that degree symbol (or any other ASCII symbol) directly into the custom format string? I believe the degree symbol is "0176" or "248".

@JenniferMurphy, In windows here is another way of adding what you need.

<win> + period (".")
It brings up the emoji keyboard
Click on the Symbols Icon
Then in the General Punctuation Section (first section after Recent or click on the General Punctuation tab)
- column 5 near the top has ℃ and ℉ (I used this method to enter those 2 here)
- column 4 6th row from the bottom of the section has the °

Excel Facts

Difference between two dates
Secret function! Use =DATEDIF(A2,B2,"Y")&" years"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"YM")&" months"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"MD")&" days"
Very nice. I can get to it a little more quickly than the Character Map and the little list of special symbol groups at the bottom makes it a bit easier to use, as well.

Thanks. It's a pity I can't mark more than 1 reply as the solution.

Interestingly, the symbol for the Windows Key itself (WinKey) is not in either the Character Map or the Emoji Map. I can get it in Word and Excel using the Marlett character set:

But I cannot seem to insert it here. It shows up as a "W". Windows is like some kind of puzzle designed by mischievous, diabolical pranksters. ????? (sigh)
