Hi all,

Sample data:

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 288pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=384 border=0 x:str><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 63pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 3072" width=84><COL style="WIDTH: 104pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 5083" width=139><COL style="WIDTH: 121pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 5888" width=161><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl24 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; WIDTH: 63pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" width=84 height=17>ACCT</TD><TD class=xl24 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; WIDTH: 104pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" width=139>Ref. For records under the same ACCT, I need to look for the latest Ref. No which is determined by looking at the 6 digits which is in the middle of the entire Ref. No (the digits are highlighted in red). The Ref. No containing the largest 6 digits will be the expected Latest Ref No. for all records under the same ACCT.

I tried the below but it is not working:

=MAX(IF($A$2:$A$5=$A2,MID(B2,10,6)))

Any suggestions how to make this work?

Thanks...

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.

Try:

=INDEX($B$2:$B$5,MATCH(MAX(IF($A$2:$A$5=$A2,MID($B$2:B$5,11,6)+0)),IF($A$2:$A$5=$A2,MID($B$2:B$5,11,6)+0),FALSE),1)
