Hi,

Is it possible to use conditional formatting for "if the cell contains abc" then do xyz?

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
Hi

What's your excel version? In excel 2007- the conditional formatting has already an option "Format cell that contains".

Unclear. Could you embellish us with a little more detail?

You select the cells you want to conditionally format, I am assuming the first is A2, then in CF you change Condition 1 to Formula Is, add the formula, then pick the format options.
