Can't Find Answer to Sorting Quandry

Sometimes when I try to sort with only cell in a table selected, the entire table will sort accordingly. Other times I'm prompted with the option to expand my selection or not. Other times, just that particular column will sort. I'm not against Edit>Undo, in fact it's my favorite feature in MS Office ;) But I'm sooo baffled by this. Does anyone know the answer? Thanks in advance for your help!!

Excel Facts

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
Excel chooses sort ranges by looking for blank rows and columns.
The only thing I can think of is that your table contains empty cells that confuse the issue depending on which cell (and surroundings) are selected at the time.

Thanks for the reply...

Thanks for the reply but unfortunately it does not help, as I didn't have any empty cells in the table. I'll just keep playing around and continue on with other work until maybe I come up with a possible reason.
