when I record a macro the relative reference button has gone away since I put the record button on the toolbar. How can I toggle back n forth from absolute/reference now that I can not find it? Any ideas??

Excel Facts

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December
I think this must be a bit secret. I hope Excel will not be upset if I tell you this. Hold on, I will close it down before I do ................ Now ...

Tools/Customize/Toolbars and activate the 'Stop Recording' one (this does not apear in the normal selection list until the macro recorder is running).

You can now hold down the Crtl key and drag a copy of the Relative Reference button to another toolber.

In the following formula:

=A1+B1

If you want A1 to be an absolute reference, select it with the cursor in the formula box then hit F4 on your keyboard. It will toggle through absolute reference, relative row reference, relative column reference, and no reference.
