can't use Tools Options Excel 97

Whenever I try to use "tools" "options" I get a message saying Excel encountered a problem and needs to close. I reinstalled Excel using the "fix" option but it didn't help. I recently used Ad Aware to remove spyware. I don't know if that may have caused the problem.
I am using Excel 97.

When was the last time you ran defrag on your C drive?

Can't give you a clue to whats happening, but I use 97 and AdAware 6 with no issues. Can't say I ever saw AA find anything in the xl folders or entries either.
