Cell Background Colour

When selecting the background colour for a cell, are you limited to using the colours in the fill colour pallette on the Formatting menu, or is there a way of choosing a custom colour like AutoShapes (perhaps through VBA).

This question is relevent to Excel 2003 and below.

If you select the More Colours... option you can choose from the extended palette or from the custom palette. Can't remember what Excel 2003 was like but in 2007 you can also applt gradients and other such fanciness
