cell/comment search showing individual cells while searching

Excel 2010 used to almost immediately provide the search results for a given cell (or comment) string.
Recently (on 2 different PCs) it still provides the results, however, it takes longer and each cell's row & column is momentarily displayed in the upper left hand (row/column) box under the ribbon.

Is this due to a MS update or did I accidentally turn something on within Excel which is causing cells to be momentarily displayed?

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
Not much help to you but I can report that I have found no such change in my Excel 2010.
